Sang'gre Amihan of Lireo, Rehav of Sapiro, was the fifth Hara of Lireo. She was born in the Kingdom of Lireo during the War between Sapiro and Hathoria, as the second daughter of the Hara Minea of Lireo and the only daughter of Rehav Raquim of Sapiro. As Lireo's monarch, she was also the keeper of the kingdom's Air Gem. She became the mother of Lira and the lover of Rehav Ybrahim.

Amihan was initially raised in the human world by her father Raquim, to shield her from the murderous intent of the Hathor King, Hagorn. Upon the death of her father, she was taken back to Encantadia and was raised together with her sisters. Amihan won the succession contest for the throne of Lireo, which embittered her elder sister Pirena. Due to Pirena's machination, Amihan raised Mira as her daughter instead of her own daughter Lira. After the Fall of Lireo, Amihan led the loyalist diwatas with the aid of Rehav Ybrahim, who eventually fell in love with her. Amihan was later reunited with her daughter Lira.

The diwatas eventually regained their power and recovered Lireo. Amihan deceived Hagorn to protect her ally LilaSari and LilaSari's daughter Deshna. Since Hagorn swore to retaliate if deceived, Amihan ordered a preemptive strike by wiping out Hagorn's Hathor army. So Hagorn turned to Ether and Arde, who supplied him with a nigh invincible Hadezar army.

Amihan died in the Kingdom of Sapiro prior to the conclusion of the Hadezar War. She briefly returned to Encantadia as an ivtre with her nephew Kahlil to end the Hadezar threat. After many years, she decided to return to Encantadia through sarkosi (reincarnation). Her chosen reincarnation is Ariana from Punjabwe, who is also chosen by the Air Gem to become its future master.[1] After Ariana's death, Amihan's ivtre was reconstituted by Emre at the request of Cassiopea.

Appearance[]

Since her childhood, Amihan had been wearing blue attire, a color associated to Lireo and the Air Gem.

Amihan's battle armor is silver and blue. With the added protection given by the Fifth Gem, she now wears dark-blue armor over black robes.

As an ivtre, she dons a modified version of her armor, dominantly white with some gold and black, which was granted to her from Devas.

Personality[]

Trailer for Amihan

The most motherly of the four Sang'gres, Amihan is warm and kindhearted, a direct opposite of the ruthless and self-centered Pirena. However, if provoked, Amihan's assumes a more serious and passionate personality during battle. Amihan tends to be at her most violent when Lira is harmed.

As a mother, her fondness to Lira, her daughter, is very apparent - being the wielder of her own heart. Amihan went to different extremes just to reunite with Lira, even battling Ether despite their huge power disparity. Numerous episodes showed Amihan's love to Lira to the point of almost killing Pirena when she thought the latter mutilated Lira. Amihan went into emotional turmoil when she heard from Alena that Lira was killed. She threatened to remove the air in Hathoria if Hagorn will not reveal where he kept Lira.

Her love for Lira is so intense that despite her stay at Devas, Amihan wanted to be with her daughter at Encantadia and promised to return in the future just for her.

As a ruler, Amihan does not limit her options to the choices given by an enemy, preferring to make a counter threat or counterattack.

Amihan is willing to sacrifice her life for the sake of Lireo and all of Encantadia; a trait inherited by her only daughter, Lira.[2] Despite Danaya's protest on her plan, using Lira in order to persuade her, Amihan countered that her sacrifice is also for Lira's welfare, to ensure a future is possible for her especially she is the successor to the Diwata throne.

History[]

Birth[]

Amihan was the daughter of Raquim, Prince of Sapiro, and Minea, Queen of Lireo. Prior to her birth, Cassiopea prophesied to Arvak that his death would coincide with the birth of a child, who is destined to destroy Hathoria. To ensure that this does not come to pass, Arvak mobilizes his army to attack Sapiro, and then Lireo. During the ensuing battle, Arvak was slain as Amihan was born. Gurna, the nanny of Pirena and Hagorn's spy, Amihan's elder sister, turns Pirena against the infant Amihan.

Falsely informed that it was Raquim who slew Arvak, Arvak's son and successor Hagorn wished to avenge himself on Raquim. After learning that Amihan was born on the day that Arvak died, Hagorn became determined to have the child slain, and orders Gurna to carry it out. With Hagorn's sleeping powder, succeeds in taking Amihan out of the palace. But before she could kill Amihan, she was shot by a Sapiryan named Enuo, causing her to flee. Enuo brings the child back to the Lirean palace.

In the human world[]

Hagorn's action, and Cassiopea's advice, made Minea decide to send Raquim and Amihan to the real world. There, Raquim raised her with the help of a human couple, Jigs and Choleng. Raquim used his Sapiryan skill of gold detection to earn a living. He did not send Amihan to school, instead teaching her Enchan and swordsmanship. During that time Minea would have birds watch over her, sometimes transforming into a bird herself.

After some time, Amihan uses her powers to avoid ill-intentioned humans. Raquim decides to tell her the truth about their origin. She does not believe her father at first, but a Hathor attack told her otherwise. Hagorn and his Hathors arrived to kill them, and Raquim was slain. Amihan was wounded and believed dead, but she was saved by Aquil and brought back to Lireo.

Return to Encantadia[]

In Lireo, Amihan comes to accept Encantadia and meets her mother Minea and sisters Pirena, Alena and Danaya. Pirena remained hostile to her, feeling that she is her greatest rival.

When the four sisters have grown up, Minea receives a sign that it is time for her to abdicate, and organizes a contest to determine her successor. Amihan alone identifies her mother in disguise, and becomes her mother's heir. Pirena rejects it, steals the Fire Gem, and turns to Hagorn for help. Amihan was crowned Queen, not only of Lireo, but also Sapiro and Adamya.

Conception of Lira[]

In the ensuing war, Minea extracts a promise from Amihan not to hurt Pirena. Amihan leads the combined Lirean, Sapiryan and Adamyan forces against the Hathors. Amihan defeats Hagorn, but Pirena intervenes. Amihan also defeats Pirena, but unable to hurt her, she was soon subdued when Hagorn returned. Pirena hesitates to kill her. Alena uses the Water Gem to summon a great tide, so the Hathors fled. Amihan faints because of her wounds, and was brought back to Lireo.

The peril that befell Amihan during the war made the elders believe that Amihan should now have an heir. Minea ordered her priestesses to pray to Emre for a suitable sire for Amihan's heir. Their prayer was answered, and Emre sent a divine white butterfly. The white butterfly chose Ybarro, actually the heir of Sapiro, and Alena's lover. Amihan and Ybarro mate in a dream, and Amihan conceives.

Hitano informed Minea that Alena was involved with a mandirigma, which was deemed unacceptable. Wishing to meet this man, Amihan comes face-to-face with Ybarro, and recognizes him. She wonders how a mandirigma could be deemed a suitable sire by Emre. Amihan knows that this may cause a rift with her sister Alena, because she has feelings for Ybarro as well.

Hagorn ordered Agane to kill Amihan. Amihan was visited by her mother Minea as she neared childbirth. Minea was shot by a poisoned arrow; Amihan was the only daughter to be present at her mother's death. Amihan attacked and pursued the assassin, but she was attacked in turn by Agane. The pangs of childbirth forced Amihan to return home, so Asval escaped.

Amihan gave birth to a daughter, Lira. The people rejoiced at Lira's birth, even though they had just lost the queen mother. Amihan doubted whether she could still be queen, as she felt she still needed her mother's guidance.

Return of Pirena[]

Amihan tells her sisters they must find out who killed their mother, and what his motive was. Pirena returns to Lireo and pleads for forgiveness. Amihan would not permit Pirena to be harmed, and grants her pardon, for their mother's sake.

Amihan had Pirena's status as a Sang'gre publicly restored. Amihan, however, demanded that she return the Fire Gem, as a proof of her sincerity. Pirena complied.

Amihan felt that something bad happened at the time that Pirena switched Mira and Lira and took Lira away. But as Pirena had cast a spell so that no one would notice the switch, Amihan did not notice.

Amihan was confronted by Ybarro about the paternity of her baby. Amihan admitted that he was the father, and asked him to leave her and Alena alone.

When Amihan asked Danaya to report on who killed their mother, Danaya hinted it was Pirena. The conflict only broke up when Alena later went home heartbroken and embraced Amihan. Hitano reported that this was because Ybarro broke up with her. Amihan pitied Alena, but expected that she would one day get over it.

Amihan later acquires the Key of Asnamon after Pirena secretly returned it there.

Motherly doubts[]

Amihan was glad that Pirena was kind to Mira, but sometimes gets annoyed that Pirena was acting the mother, such as during Mira's banyuhay.

Amihan had a dream about her daughter being in danger. But she saw Lira's face, not Mira's face.

Amihan and Danaya successfully saved some Encantados from bandits. Amihan thanked Danaya for helping her. Danaya said she will never leave her, while Amihan says Danaya can expect that she will never lose her trust.

Amihan began having serious doubts on Mira. Alena surmised that it was because Amihan did not truly know and love the father of her child. Amihan dismissed that, as that had not been a problem with their mother. Amihan says she only wants to know why she feels no connection with Mira. Pirena later makes her feel guilty because of this, so Amihan had a change of heart.

Search for Ybarro[]

Due to the Hathor attacks, Amihan decides to lead her party walking. Danaya complains that it would be faster if they teleport, but Amihan said they have to walk so they would know in what state Encantadia is in. During a skirmish with some Hathors she sees a ghostly presence (Adhara). She was bothered by what it meant, but Danaya tells her that ghosts were harmless. Amihan frightens off the next Hathor wave by a show of wind power and a glowing stare.

When there was a report of problems between animals and mandirigmas, Alena takes the side of mandirigmas while Danaya takes the side of the animals. Amihan sides with Alena, but Aquil supported Danaya and proposed a scheme that would save both.

Amihan deduces that Alena still loved Ybarro after all those years, by the way she spoke for the mandirigmas. After consulting with Imaw, Amihan decided it was time to tell Alena the truth. Amihan plays the Mulawin Flute, which summoned Pagaspas. She ordered Pagaspas to find Ybarro and bring him back to the palace. She talks with Ades about this matter, which was heard by Gurna.

Amihan then promised Alena that she would soon have her happiness, but did not elaborate. But the mission of Pagaspas failed, as Ybarro had died and fallen into the ocean. Amihan punished Hitano with a fine and a stern warning never to attack a subject or ally of the kingdom again. She also told Alena of Ybarro's death, and consoled her.

Amihan issued a charter granting the mandirigmas the land they occupied. Pirena then revealed all she knew about Ybarro, Alena, Amihan and Lira (courtesy of Gurna). Amihan thought Pirena meant mischief, but Pirena surprised her by saying she would keep it a secret. Amihan had wanted to reveal everything to Alena, but Pirena manages to convince Amihan that she should keep the secret, as Ybarro had already died. Later, Amihan decided to restore the Fire Gem to Pirena.

Years of Peace[]

Amihan's relationship with Mira had improved over the years. Amihan had a throne to her right where Mira could sit. Still, Mira was not yet included in the queen's small council, on account of her age.

Amihan consulted her sisters on the report about missing Encantados. Danaya suspected Hathors, but Pirena said Hathors had been pacified. Alena volunteered to search for the missing Encantados.

Mira later goes missing, so Amihan orders everyone to look for her. When Mira was found, she became interested about love. Pirena later confronts Amihan for not suppressing Mira's notions about love, since the Queen of Lireo cannot marry.

Mira goes missing again, and Amihan follows her to the human world, where she meets Mila. Amihan finds Mira again. They were both amazed by the technology of the human world, especially the cellphone. Mira opens up to Amihan and she tells her Cassiopea's prophecy that she'll never become queen.

Imaw observed that Mira was still immature and unready for the succession. Amihan says they still have enough time to teach her. Pirena tried to convince Amihan to abdicate in Mira's favor, but fails since Amihan could not see the point.

When Mira left again without escort, she was reprimanded by Amihan. Amihan also reprimanded Danaya, at Pirena's urging, for losing sight of Mira.

Isolation of Amihan[]

When Alena went missing, Amihan and Danaya lead the search for her. They find Pirena, wounded, who told them that Alena had been slain. They went to Cassiopea, who confirmed Pirena's story. When Pako and Wantuk visited Lireo to check on Alena, she informs them of her death. Amihan and Danaya mourn Alena's death. Amihan remembered the Water Gem and asked if Pirena got it. Pirena denied that she had it. When Ybarro went to Lireo to confirm if what he heard was true, Amihan blamed him for Alena's death.

Mira was intrigued by Ybarro's identity and asked Amihan who he was. Amihan refused to tell her.

Amihan asked Imaw to used his staff Balintataw to learn about the circumstances of Alena's death. After learning about this, Danaya volunteered to accompany him. Worried about her, she sends Aquil to accompany Danaya. But Imaw's staff went missing. Danaya thinks there might be a traitor in Lireo. Amihan tells her it is bad to accuse, but she later discusses this possibility with Imaw.

Later, there was an uprising in the fields. When she asked the farmers what was its cause, they replied that Danaya had accused them of being traitors and destroyed their homes. They wanted Danaya punished. Amihan wanted to conduct their own investigation, but Pirena managed to convince her otherwise. It was agreed that Danaya would be tried before the Konseho. The Konseho found Danaya guilty, and sentenced her to exile in the human world. Pirena then shapeshifts as Amihan and does bad things to the people to discredit her name.

Fall of Lireo[]

As Amihan is now isolated, Pirena, Hagorn and the Hathors attack Lireo. Amihan commanded the Air Gem to deprive the Hathors of their breath. She could have single-handedly suppressed the enemy attack, but she was puzzled why even her daughter Mira was also affected. Feeling guilty, Mira reveals that Pirena is her mother. Ybarro arrives and decides to assist her, but they were separated and she was grievously wounded by the Hathors. She was saved by Cassiopea and Paopao, a batang ligaw.

Amihan withdraws into the wilderness, forming a camp with the other diwata loyalist soldiers who had escaped from the Hathor attack. Pirena claims the crown of Lireo, and tries to force Amihan to surrender by killing diwata hostages. Amihan was only partially successful in rescuing the hostages, while the rest died.

Successor[]

Prior to her death, Amihan wrote her last will and testament declaring her youngest sister, Danaya, as the new Queen of Lireo. As such, Amihan bequeathed the Air Gem to her sister, ordering the gem to transfer itself to Danaya's care upon her death.

Devas and Reincarnation[]

Amihan, despite her happiness for Pirena's resurrection, is deeply hurt for seeing her daughter grieve for her. She requested Emre that she, and Kahlil, will be resurrected at Encantadia to be with their families. Emre, however, rejected this due to the fact they were killed - unlike Pirena who died due to Ether's curse - but he promised there will come a time he will permit their descent in Encantadia that they may be with them. Amihan is sitting beside the Mother Tree most of the time and Ades comforts her. Amihan sees the mystrious fruit at the Mother Tree and she desires to get it in order to go back to Encantadia, however Ades doubts her that if she would eat the fruit, her appearance, memories and powers would be given up. Amihan makes her decision to eat the fruit and she will be reincarnated. Emre appears to bless Amihan's decision. Amihan later eats the fruit in order to be reincarnated.

Amihan's spirit revived and merged with the dying Punjabwe-a Ariana, becoming Amihan's sarkosi. At the same time, the Air Gem symbol has chosen her as its new master.

After the final war, per request of Cassiopea and due to Ariana's greatness during the final war, Emre allowed Amihan to return to Lireo as an Ivtre, to be present in the Coronation of her sister Alena and to reunite with Ybrahim and Lira.

Abilities[]

Powers[]

Amihan-air

As a Sang'gre, Amihan has the ivictus ability (teleportation/invisibility). This ability has some limitations.

Amihan acquired the power to manipulate air by virtue of the Air Gem.

  • She can release powerful blasts of wind against her opponents
  • According to Danaya, Amihan could deprive all Hathoria of air
  • She was shown to use this ability to simulate the power of flight, as seen when she fought the Pashnea that Hagorn summoned.

Amihan could conjure images in her hands. She used this ability to show Pagaspas the likeness of Ybarro.[7]

When Paopao uses the Fifth Gem to give Amihan extra potential powers.

According to Cassiopea, Amihan, like LilaSari, cannot die in the human world.[8] This seems to be connected to her destiny.

After she died, Emre removed the lines from Amihan's palm, declaring that she would have no destiny to follow, as she would have to make her destiny on her own.[9] She has later acquired powers from Devas and an armor upgrade to combat against Hadezars.

Other skills[]

During their exile, Amihan was extensively taught in swordsmanship by her father, Prince Raquim. Thus, Amihan is said to be the most skilled warrior of the four Sang'gres. It was also during this time that she learned words and customs from the human realm.

Amihan has good reflexes, which enabled her to catch an arrow fired at her by Asval.[10]

Amihan has the ability to survive grievous injuries.

Weaponry[]

Amihan's weapon of choice is the Arkrey, the sword of her late father, Prince Raquim of Sapiro. Her weapons set is diversified after moving to Lireo, having versed in knife and boomerang throwing.

Trivia[]

  • Amihan is the Filipino term for the northeast monsoon
  • Some fans refer to her as "Amihan, Second of her Name". Such usage would be inaccurate for royalty, however, since only monarchs who have reigned are numbered in the real world, and the first Amihan was never queen.
  • Amihan's actress Kylie Padilla had auditioned for the role of Pirena before it was given to Glaiza de Castro.
  • Amihan and Lira had similar experiences during their temporary stay at Devas. Emre offered Lira wealth and power whereas Amihan was offered with a great reward and the chance to meet her deceased parents, Raquim and Minea. Both refused the offer and Emre immediately acceded to their request.
  • Amihan's character was killed off due to the real-life pregnancy of Amihan's actress Kylie Padilla.

Version differences[]

  • AmihanBook23Warrior

    Amihan in Encantadia 2005-2006.

Amihan was played by Iza Calzado in 2005-2006 series.
  • A notable difference between Encantadia (2005) and Encantadia (2016) is that Amihan is alive and was the one mourning for the death of her Lira in the original series. In the current series, Lira is the one grieving for the death of her mother, Amihan - which gravely affected her.
  • In the original series, Sang'gre Amihan of Lireo's[11] rival is Hera Juvila of Volo due to their combat prowess and skill.
  • In the original series, as much as Amihan loved Ybrahim, she respected his relationship with Alena and maintained good friendship with him.
  • In the third book of the original series, Amihan has killed Bathaluman Ether towards the end of the final war.
